In Mwazaro, you can learn to kitesurf from scratch or take your skills to the next level—in a wide, shallow lagoon that’s considered one of the safest kitesurfing spots around. Plenty of space, warm water, and reliable wind make it easy to get started and help you progress quickly.
We focus on personalised coaching in small groups: certified instructors, modern CORE equipment, assistance with launching and landing, and a rescue service on the water. This way, you can learn safely and at your own pace.
Between sessions, the Beach Lodge offers good food and the tranquillity of a place that hardly anyone knows about – far removed from mass tourism. This blend of sport, nature and genuine well-being makes Mwazaro your kitesurfing home in Kenya.
Mwazaro is located around 77 km south of Mombasa on a wide, shallow bay sheltered by Funzi Island. The spot covers around 15 km² – a wide beach with plenty of space for beginners, those moving up a level and advanced surfers.
During the Kaskazi season from December to March, the trade winds blow reliably from the north/north-east, mostly onshore at the lodge. A unique highlight is that the wind is concentrated and accelerated at the river mouth. Whilst the better-known spot, Diani, might only see around 10 knots, Mwazaro often still delivers 15–20 knots.

Mwazaro Beach Lodge is your home right on the beach: a small resort nestled amongst palm trees and a lagoon, recently fully renovated and reopened. The pool, bar and cosy chill-out areas invite you to make yourself at home – and the kitesurfing spot is just a few steps away.
Ten room categories, ranging from the cosy Standard category to the Beach Villa, let you stay exactly as you wish. Almost all feature a private balcony or terrace with sea views, as well as a mosquito net and either a fan or air conditioning.
Half-board is included in all room rates. Breakfast and dinner are freshly prepared: Kenyan flavours, fresh produce and international classics – sourced locally wherever possible.
